4/28/16 This number called my business line today. The woman was speaking Spanish. Since I am fluent in English and Spanish, I was able to communicate with her. She asked for a person by name, to which I replied that no one by that name worked here. She then questioned me and asked why I answered the phone. Her question surprised me, but I kindly informed her that the number she dialed is a business line and businesses answer their telephones. I asked her to remove our number from her calling list. That was a mistake. She started YELLING at me stating that since I am not (the person she was looking for) that I have NO AUTHORITY to tell her to remove our business line from her list.
I should have just hung-up, but I sat there totally flabbergasted listening to her go off on me. I don't even remember what she was saying because I was so shocked. I then informed her that as the director of the company, I have every authority to ask her to remove my number. She began shouting, and I simply responded with, "Stop yelling so that I can get a word in..." She hung up on me after that. This ordeal prompted me to share the experience with my staff and reminded them about phone courtesy and customer service.
